Plans have just been announced to begin construction of a multi-province highway, primarily between Khanh Hoa and Phan Thiet.

The highway aims to address the needs of increasing passenger and cargo numbers; to shorten the travel time from other areas to Khanh Hoa, and to gradually complete the synchronized plan of the North-South Highway from Hanoi to Can Tho. As part of this, The Ministry of Transport has just approved an investment project to build the North-South Highway Segment from Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa to Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan.

The costs of the highway will be funded by capital mobilization from a number of investors, the State Budget and ODA (Official Development Assistance). It will become one of the largest highway construction segments in the country in terms of length and investment amount.

According to a report from the joint venture consultants, the total length of the route will be up to 235 km , stretching across 3 provinces (Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan). The starting point is located in Dien Tho Commune, Dien Khanh District, Khanh Hoa and the endpoint is connected with the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Highway.

More than VND27.84 trillion (US$1.24 billion) has been allocated for investment in the project. This will comprise of approximately VND9.28 trillion ($416 million) from the Official Development Assistance (ODA), with the remaining VND18.55 trillion ($ 824 million) to be funded by investors under a “build-operate-transfer” contract. The project is expected to be completed in 2020.
