Sunshine Bar & Restaurant – A Shining Light in Japanese Cuisine

As its name suggests, the Sunshine Bar & Restaurant is an impressive open space with plenty of natural light and fresh air breezing in from the river. Replete with its own creative menu, this hidden gem is the brainchild of its “hipster” owner, Shohei Yada. This impressive young Japanese expat is on a mission to create a Japanese restaurant with a difference, and one that doesn’t play it safe with traditional Sushi offerings.

Shohei spent most of his green years working, travelling and enjoying his youth across different continents, and has taken influence from everything he has experienced to create an interesting and diverse menu that is complemented by home-made cocktails and drinks.

He began his career in the industry working as a bartender in his hometown of Kyoto, Japan, at 19 years old, and soon set up his own watering hole (The Peace Bar), which allowed him to learn the important skills needed to run a successful business. However, after five years of seeing the same view from his bar, his wanderlust and cravings for a new challenge led him to seek something outside of his comfort zone, taking him to the sunny climes of Nha Trang.

Located behind Ponagar Temple, Sunshine Bar is a casual and country-chic venue home to delicious ginger beer, creative miso seafood soup and a variety of Japanese Udon noodles, all handmade by Shohei himself. Although he doesn’t have any classical cooking training, he has created a diverse menu that comes from his passion for food.

The menu is based on his mother’s home cooking, and fused with the influences of dishes he has sampled across the world. He keeps up to date with international dining trends, constantly innovating and pushing the boundaries of what he can create. The goal is to always surprise his guests with an interesting take on traditional cuisine.

Shohei has put his full personality into the style and decor of Sunshine, and its an ideal location for couples, groups and families who seeking to unwind for an afternoon or evening. Whether you perch at the bar or dine on the spacious terrace, Sunshine boasts an uninterrupted river view with beautiful sunlight, a cool breeze and fantastic decor.

With its ideal riverside location, Sunshine has also become famous as the place where thrill seekers can book the amazing “Flyboard Water Hover Board” excursions.
