Women’s Day 8th March 2017
This Thursday, March 8, people will be celebrating International Women’s Day all around the world. Vietnam is no exception, and there will be throngs of people out celebrating the event. But what are we celebrating—and how will we celebrate the event?
International Women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace. It celebrate’s the role of women in society, while promoting equality. Since Vietnam Women’s day was first celebrated in 1930, it has been an occasion for men to express their love for women. It is also seen as an important reminder of women’s role in the society in which we criticize the issue of gender inequality, sexual violence, discrimination or sexual harassment.
Across the city tomorrow, there will be a rush of men visiting the flower stores and street-side floral vendors to pick up a bouquet for their partner or that special crush. Others will spend more lavishly, arriving home with gifts, teddy bears or even jewelry in order to really impress! The nightlife in the city will be especially vibrant, and both restaurants and coffee shops will be brimming with couples and groups of friends, enjoying an evening drink or romantic meal. So, men of Nha Trang, make sure you don’t forget the date or return home empty-handed. As they say, “A woman never forgets”!
