Hash House Harriers

The Hash House Harriers, or simply ‘Hash’ as it is better known, has been a global success story. Starting in Kuala Lumpur before the war, it has spread across the world with chapters on all continents, even Antarctica! It now lays claim to being the biggest sporting club on Earth.

The principle is simple. Combine exercise, in the form of walking or running with beer and a good time. Nha Trang formed its own Hash in Feb 2013 and has seen regular turn outs of over 50 people each Sunday from all walks of life including locals, expats and visitors.

There is an unseen mystery trail set each week by volunteer ‘hares’ and the pack follows chalk arrows or shredded paper through the countryside for 5-8km until the bus is reached and the serious fun begins. The trails are always set with a great deal of thought, and participants will see parts of the ‘real’ Vietnam not easily found any other way. With great scenery and snapshots of the local peoples way of life, it’s a fantastic way for the local inhabitants to get together and have some fun, activity and great conversation.

The meeting point is Crazy Kim’s Bar, 19 Biet Thu St. The bus leaves for the countryside at 3pm sharp(ish). Cost is VND120,000 for foreigners and visitors and VND60,000 for locals. This includes beer, soft drink, snacks and the bus. Great fun and great value. Bring a sense of humour and sturdy walking or running shoes
